The article examines theoretical, legal, and applied problems related to the use of electronic data storage media and digital evidence in criminal proceedings. The relevance of the topic is determined by the fact that the digitalization of social relations has changed not only the methods of committing crimes, but also the evidentiary environment itself: a significant part of information relevant to a criminal case is generated, stored, and transmitted in electronic form. Particular importance is attached to the question of how to ensure the admissibility, reliability, integrity, and verifiability of digital data without violating the rights of participants in criminal proceedings. Taking into account the latest amendments to the criminal procedure legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, international standards, and contemporary scholarly research, the article substantiates the conclusion that the formal recognition of digital evidence should be accompanied by the establishment of a special procedural regime for its detection, seizure, copying, authentication, storage, examination, and evaluation.
