This article examines the genre system, communicative functions, and stylistic characteristics of Mahmudkhodja Behbudi’s journalistic and publicistic writings in the context of the emergence of Uzbek national journalism. Drawing on historical-contextual and descriptive-comparative methods, it considers the roles of the Samarqand newspaper and the Oyina journal. News reports, editorials, analytical articles, commentaries, travel writing, and polemical texts are discussed in terms of their educational, persuasive, critical, and informational purposes. Particular attention is given to argumentation, direct address, rhetorical questions, comparisons, and the interplay of accessible and literary registers. The study concludes that Behbudi’s publishing activity helped establish the press as a forum for enlightenment, public discussion, and cultural renewal.
