This article examines how riddle- and aphorism-related paremias are recorded and interpreted in English and Uzbek dictionaries, with particular attention to genre boundaries, semantic explanation and cultural meanings. Descriptive, contrastive, structural-semantic and lexicographic modelling approaches are combined. A question–clue–answer model is proposed for riddles, while an authorship–generalisation–pragmatic impact model is used for aphorisms. Illustrative comparisons show that semantic similarity does not necessarily entail equivalence of imagery or communicative function. The study argues for bilingual entries integrating genre labels, definitions, context, cultural notes, variants and translation equivalents.
