Annotatsiya

This article systematizes the theoretical and methodological foundations for studying stylistic devices in linguistics from the perspective of contemporary stylistics. It clarifies the relationship among the notions of stylistic device, expressive means, stylistic feature, trope, figure, foregrounding, context and pragmatic effect, and compares formal, functional, pragmatic, cognitive, corpus-based and multimodal approaches to stylistic analysis. The methodological framework combines descriptive, comparative-typological, contextual, componential, discourse-pragmatic, cognitive-semantic and corpus-informed procedures. On the basis of a synthesis of recent scholarship, a stylistic device is treated not merely as an ornamental feature of literary language but as a functional mechanism through which a linguistic choice, deviation from an expected norm or purposeful patterning creates additional semantic, expressive, evaluative and pragmatic value in a text. The article describes the manifestation of stylistic devices at phonetic-graphological, morphological, lexical-semantic, syntactic, textual-discursive and pragmatic levels and proposes an integrative model based on the sequence ‘form – norm – context – function – effect – verification’. The model is designed to strengthen the link between linguistic evidence and interpretation, reduce unsupported subjectivity in stylistic analysis and facilitate the analysis of different genres and discourse types.
