Annotatsiya

This article examines lexical-semantic, grammatical and functional transformations of stylistic devices in English-to-Uzbek translation of literary and journalistic discourse. It focuses on metaphor, metonymy, epithet, repetition, antithesis, hyperbole and irony, exploring their preservation, restructuring and compensation through alternative expressive resources. A combined comparative-stylistic, contextual and functional-pragmatic framework is proposed. Purpose-built illustrative translation pairs demonstrate that formal similarity does not necessarily ensure equivalent communicative impact, whereas grammatical restructuring can sometimes produce a more natural figurative effect in the target language. An analytical table classifies transformation types, translation procedures and their possible functional consequences. The discussion argues that translation decisions should be assessed not only through lexical correspondence but also in relation to genre, tone, readership and aesthetic intention. The examples are illustrative, not results of a quantified corpus experiment.
