Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a highly prevalent disorder of the upper gastrointestinal tract associated with diverse clinical manifestations and a risk of complications, including erosive esophagitis, Barrett s esophagus, and esophageal adenocarcinoma. Traditional diagnostic approaches include clinical criteria and instrumental methods. Symptom-based assessment questionnaires are widely used for primary diagnosis and treatment monitoring; however, their diagnostic accuracy is limited when applied in isolation. This review examines the main assessment scales and diagnostic methods, their diagnostic characteristics, and clinical applications.
