The article reveals the problem of metabolic syndrome, and the authors focus on the prevalence and usefulness of assessing dependent eating behavior and its impact on the results of surgical intervention. Collectively, psychiatric symptoms, maladaptive eating patterns, and lifestyle factors seem to contribute to the recurrence of weight gain. The authors state the fact that few studies have been conducted to measure all of these factors simultaneously to determine which of them uniquely contribute to an increased likelihood of weight relapse.
