The authors report that bariatric surgery (BSl) for individuals with any degree of obesity is recognized worldwide as the most effective intervention for reducing body weight and hyperglycemia. However, the course of the early postoperative period (in the first 30 days after mini-gastrobypass surgery) is often overshadowed by the development of postoperative complications. The authors conclude that there is a need for further search for alternative surgical methods that would reduce the likelihood of surgical complications, reduce the cost of bariatric surgery and increase the availability of surgical treatment of obesity associated with diabetes.
