One of the most common causes of trigeminal neuralgia is vascular compression of the nerve due to abnormal vessel location or vascular changes, most often atherosclerosis. In 80-90% of cases, trigeminal neuralgia is caused by compression from a neighboring artery or vein. The trigeminal nerve is most often compressed by the superior cerebellar artery (75–80% of cases), the artery of the maxillary segment of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) (23–26%), the truncal artery and vascular loops associated with the superior pituitary artery (4.5–8% ). The article is devoted to the recognition of neurovascular conflicts.
