The work is devoted to the study of mineral colours of ancient wall paintings from the remains of a medieval bathhouse found on the territory of the mahalla ‘Imom Vose’ in Samarkand (Uzbekistan). Eight different sam ples with paintings made with burgundy, red, yellow, white and black colours with their different shades were examined. The study was carried out by the method of energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis, which allowed us to determine the elemental composition of the paints used by the ancient masters. It was determined that burgundy, red, yellow colours were made of iron-containing natural minerals, most likely ochre. White paint of different shades was made on the basis of calcium carbonate (calcite) and calcium sulphate (gypsum of different modifications). A portable energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer Vanta Element-S with the analytical application ‘Geochemistry’ was used to determine the elemental composition of the samples, allowing to determine the content of chemical elements 24 Mg, 27 Al, 28 Si, 31 P, 32 S, 35 Cl, 40 Ca, 48 Ti, 51 V, 52 Cr, 55 Mn, 56 Fe, 59 Ni, 59 Co, 64 Cu, 65 Zn, 75 As, 79 Se, 85 Rb, 88 Sr, 89 Y, 91 Zr, 93 Nb, 96 Mo, 108 Ag, 112 Cd, 119 Sn, 122 Sb, 137 Ba, 139 La, 140 Ce, 141 Pr, 144 Nd, 184 W, 207 Pb, 197 Au.
