The article presents the results of the latest archaeological observations carried out at Shashtepa in 2021-2022, in connection with excavation work for the conservation project of the main Shashtepa site - a cult and memorial complex of the 2nd century BC. The authors note that archaeological research in the 1970s-90s on the territory of the modern city of Tashkent led to the conclusion that here, since ancient times, on the irrigation ditches fed by the waters of the Chirchik and underground sources, a dense settlement system based on agricultural economy was formed - a micro-oasis, which, in the late Middle Ages, approximately corresponded to the area of the Tashkent rustaks. Taking into account the results of observations and previously conducted excavations at Shashtepa, we can conclude that beyond the ring wall of its early cult-memorial complex of the 2nd century BC - 3rd century AD, the entire surrounding area was inhabited, where a settlement of the Karakhanid period was formed. In the developed Middle Ages, its boundaries were determined when all the irrigators Salar - Dzhun, Karasu, Bozsu with their channels and canals were used in an economic context. During the Samanid and Karakhanid periods, the city of Binkat (a 19th century settlement near the city of Tashkent) was at the center of the infrastructure.
