This article examines the spread of dental caries and its paleopathological significance based on human skeletal remains found at the Songak and Tashbulak archaeological sites in Uzbekistan. Dental diseases, especially caries, represent one of the most prevalent health conditions affecting human populations. Anthropological materials obtained from the Songak and Tashbulak sites, compared with data from other archaeological excavations in Uzbekistan, contribute to the reconstruction of the lifestyles and dietary habits of ancient communities. The prevalence of dental caries reflects a range of social and environmental factors, including food sources, hygiene, and patterns of subsistence. The study reveals differences between the two communities: caries was significantly more common at Toshbulak than at Songak. In addition, sex-based differences were observed, with women showing a higher prevalence of caries than men. The article contributes to the refinement of scientific hypotheses about the social and economic structures of ancient societies through the study of dental diseases. The distribution of caries is shown to be primarily linked to agricultural and pastoral activities, as well as changes in dietary habits. Moreover, Paleopathological evidence from Songak and Tashbulak, particularly data on dental caries, provide valuable information about the economic activities of ancient populations. On this basis, it can be suggested that the Songak population predominantly practiced pastoralism and maintained a nomadic way of life, while the inhabitants of Tashbulak may have been transitioning to a sedentary lifestyle.
