Morphological properties of solid solution films Sb2(SxSe1-x)3 for solar cells

High-quality crystalline films of Sb2(SxSe1-x)3 solid solutions were obtained by chemical molecular beam epitaxy (CMBE) and vacuum thermal evaporation methods from powders of the binary compounds Sb2S3 and Sb2Se3 on glass and glass substrates coated with a molybdenum layer at substrate temperature 300°C.. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy confirmed that the obtained Sb2(SxSe1-x)3 films have a composition ratio of Sb/(S+Se) close to stoichiometry, and the distribution of all components (Sb, S, Se) in the solid solution on the surface of the synthesized thin films is homogeneous. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that all films have an orthorhombic structure with a predominant orientation of (hk1), and the crystallite sizes range from 0.25 to 6 µm. An increase in the atomic concentration ratio S/(S+Se) leads to a change in the shape of the crystallites. Atomic force microscopy investigation of the films demonstrates that the root mean square roughness increases with an increase in S/(S+Se) ratio.
