This article is devoted to outlining the theoretical foundations of orthology and its position within the system of modern linguistics. The main focus of the research is the category of variability in orthology, and the nature of this phenomenon is examined through a practical analysis of university classroom discourse. The article presents a comparative study of linguistic and nonverbal aspects of speech norms found in film samples depicting traditional university life and communicative models observed in the contemporary higher education environment. Additionally, changes occurring in Uzbek and English classroom interaction, mechanisms of norm renewal, degrees of variation, and the transformation of communicative etiquette are closely investigated. The findings show that orthology is a constantly evolving system whose normative boundaries are continuously reshaped under the influence of social, technological, and cultural factors; nonverbal means, meanwhile, are identified as secondary yet essential components that complement communicative content and contribute to determining the orthological value of speech. This perspective makes it possible to reinterpret orthology not only as a theory of norms but also as a system connected to linguocultural dynamics and the history of discourse. Furthermore, the study analyzes emerging communicative competencies in higher education and presents scholarly reflections on the potential future development of orthological processes.
