Annotatsiya

This study is dedicated to a comparative analysis of strategies for constructing national identity in political discourse through the instrumentalization of the past. Based on key speeches by Presidents Sh. Mirziyoyev, V. Putin, and D. Trump (covering the period 2017-2024) and employing methods of critical discourse analysis, cognitive metaphor theory, and comparative analysis, the research identifies core linguocultural dominants. It is proven that the discourse of Uzbekistan is structured around the idea of reviving civilizational heritage, Russia’s rhetoric revolves around statist traditionalism and the sacred myth of Victory, while the American discourse, as framed by Trump, transforms classical liberal fundamentalism into an idea of populist revanche. The work demonstrates how political language not merely appeals to history but actively constructs its mythologized versions to legitimize contemporary ideological projects. Additionally, historical narratives are shown to perform a mobilizing function, influencing collective memory, emotional alignment, and the redefinition of national values under conditions of ongoing global political shifts. The comparative approach revealed not only unique national models but also universal mechanisms for employing historical narratives, such as reliance on a “golden age” and the binary opposition of “us versus them,” confirming the close interconnection between language, history, and the formation of collective consciousness.
