Annotatsiya

This article presents an in-depth analysis of the formation and development of village prose in Russian literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, considered one of the key trends reflecting the cultural, social, and spiritual transformations of Russian society. Village prose developed from a rich tradition of depicting folk life, dating back to the works of I. Turgenev, L. Tolstoy, and N. Nekrasov. However, its qualitative renewal occurred in the second half of the 20th century, when issues of preserving historical memory, spiritual continuity, and individual moral choice came to the fore. Particular attention is paid to the historical and cultural preconditions for the emergence of this trend, its ideological and aesthetic uniqueness, poetic structures, the specific chronotope, and the evolution of the image of the peasantry in the context of modernization, industrialization, and the gradual loss of traditional ways of life. The research’s methodological framework draws on the works of L. Anninsky, I. Rodnyanskaya, Yu. Lotman, M. Bakhtin, and other researchers, allowing us to identify the inherent patterns of this movement’s development and determine its place in the literary process of the second half of the 20th century. Using works by F. Abramov, V. Belov, V. Shukshin, V. Rasputin, and V. Astafyev, the artistic and cultural significance of village prose is revealed, as well as its role in understanding the fate of the people, strengthening national identity, and preserving traditional values amidst rapid social change.
