This article describes the interpretation and functions of the term “image” in various fields of modern linguistics, such as cognitive linguistics, psycholinguistics, semisology, linguoculturology and others. The stages of the formation of the image in human consciousness as a model of knowledge, its expression in various types of media discourse, and the possibilities of its use as a force influencing individuals in society are also analyzed. The image formed about a certain thing, object, individual, territory, period appears in the human mind under the influence of certain factors. A person’s mentality, behavior, culture, environment, social origin, social status, genesis, etc., create the basis for the formation of a certain image. The concept of image is dynamic and subject to constant change, shifting from negative to positive evaluations or vice versa depending on social, cultural, and communicative conditions. Images constructed in human consciousness may acquire dynamic qualities through stylistic and axiological means of influence. Within media discourse, the use of metaphors, metonymy, synecdoche, personification, irony, and other stylistic devices enables the reshaping and reconfiguration of images disseminated to the public. Furthermore, values cherished and transmitted across generations serve as linguo-axiological markers supporting image formation and stabilization. The article also discusses the viewpoints and theoretical reflections on the concept of image proposed by prominent linguists, integrating their scholarly contributions into the analysis.
