This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the socio-cultural origins of storytelling, its philological and pedagogical significance, and its didactic role in the modern language teaching process. Storytelling is considered one of the oldest forms of human thought and an effective means of transmitting national memory, spiritual values, moral guidelines, and cultural heritage from generation to generation, as confirmed by various scientific sources. The article highlights the historical development of the oral tradition and the process of the formation of narrative art using the example of such epic works as the Panchatantra, the Iliad, and the Odyssey, emphasizing its close connection with folk oral creativity. In addition, it examines new scientific approaches of the 20th and 21st centuries, the emergence of the concept of “narrative pedagogy,” the expansion of multimodal educational tools, and the integration of “digital storytelling” technologies into the educational process. Special attention is paid to how storytelling combines with a communicative approach and contributes to the development of students' motivation, creative and critical thinking, intercultural and speech competence, which reveals its high didactic potential. The study further outlines criteria for assessing students’ listening and story-creation activities through reflective writing, portfolios, and creative projects, allowing a comparative analysis of the advantages and limitations of storytelling in contrast to traditional lecture-based instruction.
