This article analyzes the formation of historical figures in William Shakespeare’s “historical chronicles.” The author identifies the subjective and objective factors that influenced the creation of these characters. In his dramatic works, Shakespeare interprets historical facts and personalities according to the demands of theatrical art. In particular, the article explores how the characters of Henry VIII and Henry VI are reshaped in comparison with historical sources. The research highlights how Renaissance historiography, political censorship, patriotic sentiments, and the playwright’s personal stance affected the formation of historical portrayals. The article emphasizes that Shakespeare’s dramatic style is deeply rooted in the principle of historicity.
