It is well known that, speaking and listening are closely interconnected phenomena. Oral communication consists of directly listening to and understanding the interlocutor's speech and responding to it, with each of the interlocutors acting as both as a listener and speaker. Therefore, in the development of monologic speech, listening exercises within speech preparation activities play significant role. These listening exercises are designed to expand vocabulary, enhance written and oral literacy and improve the norms of orthoepic pronunciation of the Uzbek language, as well as to teach thepractical application of linguistic rules. In this regard the use of audio texts (audio materials) has a great effect. Listeningexercises can be classified into three groups: those that prepare learners to receive the text, those involving the actual listening to audio materials, and those based on tasks derived from the heard text. This article discusses one of the most important goals of teaching Uzbek as a foreign language to foreign students, namely, listening skills.
