This article investigates the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) tools on student motivation and engagement in higher education. Focusing on two widely used platforms – ChatGPT and Duolingo – the study analyzes empirical findings and international case studies from 2022 to 2024. The author demonstrates that both tools enhance students’ critical thinking, self-directed learning, and interest in academic activities. ChatGPT acts as a virtual tutor, offering personalized guidance, real-time feedback, and cognitive support, while Duolingo boosts intrinsic motivation through gamification and adaptive learning technologies. The article also addresses potential risks of AI overuse, such as academic dependency and reduced attention span. Practical recommendations are provided to guide responsible integration of AI in the learning process. The study contributes valuable theoretical and applied insights for the digital transformation of modern education and serves as a resource for educators, institutions, and education policymakers.
