The article describes the nature of speech influence on public consciousness in Russian media discourse. The relevance of the topic of the article is due to the importance of the problem of the targeted use of linguistic means to influence the addressee of mass media, especially young people, who are particularly susceptible to it due to the lack of a mature, stable worldview. The article indicates several areas in which speech influence is practiced especially often and is important: journalism, linguistics, sociology, psychology, education, politics, etc. Noting the existence of a broad and narrow understanding of speech impact, the author emphasizes that he adheres to a narrow understanding. The article examines the linguistic means of different levels used to influence the addressee of media speech: phonetic, lexical, morphological and syntactic. In conclusion, it is concluded that a modern person, especially a young one, should have an understanding of language manipulation and its methods, and he needs to learn to recognize it and not succumb to it.
