Today, the development of sociocultural competence – one of the components of communicative competence – has become one of the most pressing challenges in the teaching process. Great attention is now being paid to the enhancement of communicative and sociocultural competences in English language education, not only in Uzbekistan but also worldwide. The formation and development of socio-cultural competence in students is becoming a vital issue in pedagogy, since their professional realization in the industrial and social life of the country will depend on how the younger generation finds a common language with representatives of other cultures in a multicultural society. Most students have language skills, but cannot successfully organize sociocultural communication. And, conversely, students who have undergone immersion training and have communicative and intercultural skills can successfully implement communication, despite errors in foreign language speech. This article discusses the concepts of communicative competence and its components, the significance of sociocultural competence in the educational process, and research conducted by scholars in this area.
