The study established that an academic letter of recommendation functions as a complex professional genre that combines evaluation, evidence, projection, and direct sponsorship. It reviewed 18 English-language journal articles published between 2021 and 2025 and applied structured narrative review, genre analysis, appraisal theory, metadiscourse analysis, and functional comparison. Seven recurrent stages emerged: stating the purpose, establishing the recommender’s authority and relationship with the candidate, presenting central evaluations, supporting them with observable evidence, describing professional conduct, projecting future suitability, and formulating the final recommendation. The findings showed that recommendation strength in Uzbek, Russian, and English does not depend on a single booster; it emerges from the alignment of performative wording, evidential support, comparison frame, and modal commitment. The study consequently proposed a translation check based on semantic accuracy, genre naturalness, pragmatic force, and authorial responsibility.
