The use of English loanwords in commercial contexts

Annotatsiya

This article analyzes the role and significance of English loanwords in the formation of vocabulary and their functioning in Uzbek social and commercial contexts. The study examines shop and service names, internet-cafe discourse, media usage, and examples from online communication in order to identify the communicative, pragmatic, and symbolic functions of borrowed lexical units. The results show that English loanwords are often used not only to name new technologies and services, but also to express modernity, prestige, internationalization, and commercial attractiveness.
