Annotatsiya

This article investigates the pragmatic and discursive mechanisms through which legal speech acts are realized in the language of international contracts. International legal texts function not merely as sources of information but as performative instruments that establish rights, obligations, prohibitions, and procedural norms. The study examines the linguistic means used to encode illocutionary force, including modal verbs, performative constructions, the passive voice, and nominalization. The findings demonstrate that legal discourse prioritizes pragmatic clarity while employing structural complexity to ensure neutrality, objectivity, and cross-cultural interpretability. The research contributes to legal linguistics by showing that contractual language operates as a system of institutionalized speech acts rather than as ordinary communication.
