This study aims to highlight one of the prominent figures in Arabic rhetoric and one of the founders of this important field of science, which focuses on the forms and meanings of speech. Abu Ubaidah, one of the distinguished linguists of the second century AH, was able to recognize the subtle connection that links the major branches of Arabic linguistic sciences, particularly language, grammar, and rhetoric. Since this study examines rhetorical principles in the works of Abu Ubaidah, special attention is given to his well-known work Majāz al-Qur’an. In this book, he analyzes various modes of expression and stylistic features of the Arabic language, demonstrating how rhetorical meanings can emerge beyond strict grammatical rules and established linguistic conventions of the Arabs.
