This article examines the influence of critical thinking on problem-solving processes in second language learning. The study is conducted within the framework of applied linguistics using a qualitative theoretical analysis of scholarly literature. Particular attention is given to cognitive mechanisms involved in language production, including lexical selection, pragmatic interpretation, and discourse organization. The findings indicate that learners with developed critical thinking skills perform communicative tasks more effectively in a foreign language. The article argues that second language problem solving is not merely a grammatical process but a cognitively demanding activity that requires evaluation, inference, and strategic decision-making. The interconnection between language and cognition is emphasized, and the necessity of integrating analytical reasoning tasks into EFL instruction is highlighted.
