The accelerating integration of artificial intelligence into everyday cognitive tasks has generated an unresolved tension between enhanced efficiency and the gradual reconfiguration of human critical thinking capacities. This article examines what is termed the paradox of automated reasoning: the phenomenon whereby systems designed to augment human judgment simultaneously risk diminishing the very cognitive skills they aim to support. Drawing on a theoretical and comparative methodological approach, the paper synthesizes insights from cognitive science, philosophy of mind, neuroethics, and digital humanities to analyze how algorithmic mediation reshapes patterns of reasoning, evaluation, and metacognitive awareness. Through a phenomenological analysis of digital cognition, the study explores three interrelated dynamics: cognitive offloading and mediated thinking, the erosion of metacognitive vigilance under algorithmic predictability, and the potential neuroplastic consequences of prolonged interaction with AI-driven systems. Case studies from AI-supported educational platforms and medical decision-support systems provide applied illustrations of these dynamics. The findings suggest that while automated reasoning systems can amplify analytical reach, they also subtly reorient epistemic agency, shifting humans from active reasoners to supervisory participants. The article concludes with practical recommendations for educational institutions and system designers, emphasizing the cultivation of reflective friction, epistemic resistance, and critical literacy as safeguards against cognitive atrophy. The study contributes a novel conceptual framework for understanding AI not merely as a tool, but as an active participant in the ecology of human thought.
