The article examines Old Russian literature of the eleventh–seventeenth centuries as a distinct type of verbal culture shaped within the framework of a Christian theocentric worldview. It explores the spiritual, cultural, and historical conditions of its formation, as well as the specific features of medieval Russian literary thought. Particular attention is paid to the anonymity of authorship, the symbolic nature of imagery, the didactic character of texts, and their orientation toward the idea of the salvation of the soul. The study substantiates the need for a specialized methodology for interpreting Old Russian literary monuments, taking into account their religious and ideological foundations and their fundamental differences from the literature of the modern era.
