This article examines the pragmatic functions of address forms in Arabic and English through an empirically grounded, discourse-based approach. Addressing the limitations of descriptive contrastive studies predominantly, the research integrates qualitative discourse analysis with systematically selected conversational data to reveal how address forms function as interactional strategies in authentic communication. The study analyses 60 naturally occurring interactional extracts across informal, institutional, and media contexts, focusing on politeness, social hierarchy, and interpersonal alignment. The findings demonstrate that English address forms prioritize contextual flexibility and interactional negotiation, while Arabic address forms consistently index social hierarchy, respect, and collective identity. By foregrounding empirical evidence and discourse context, the study offers a refined model for understanding address forms as dynamic pragmatic resources. The findings have implications for contrastive pragmatics, intercultural communication, language pedagogy, and translation studies.
