The importance of specialized sports competitions in involving persons with intellectual impairments in sports is rapidly increasing. In particular, participation in the International Special Olympics, as well as state-supported material and moral incentives awarded to winners and prize-winners, significantly increases young people’s interest in regular physical activity. This article provides a scientific analysis of the role of the Special Olympics movement in integrating persons with intellectual disabilities into modern society.
