This article examines the transformational processes in the social and domestic life of the urban populations of Khojeyli, Kungrad, and Chimbay during the establishment of Soviet rule in Karakalpakstan from 1920 to 1928. The new government's efforts to restructure the socio-economic order in this agrarian region and modernize its industry had a profound impact on the formation of the urban environment. Drawing on archival materials, reports from revolutionary committees, and statistical data, the article analyzes the restoration of the cotton industry, the formation of the working class, the sanitary and technical state of urban infrastructure, and the mechanisms of public adaptation. The findings of this research make it possible to determine the specific functional roles of the region's cities during the period of Soviet modernization.
