This scholarly article provides a comprehensive analysis of the transformation of the extradition institution in the context of rapid digital technological development. The study examines key changes over the past decade, including the digitalization of crime, the growing prevalence of cybercrime, the increasing reliance on electronic evidence, and the integration of artificial intelligence and biometric technologies into criminal justice systems. Drawing on international treaties, the case law of the European Court of Human Rights, Interpol mechanisms, and United Nations documents, the article identifies contemporary trends shaping extradition practices. The findings demonstrate that while digital technologies have enhanced the efficiency and speed of extradition procedures, they have also generated new legal challenges related to the protection of human rights, the application of the non-refoulement principle, personal data protection, and procedural safeguards. The author argues that the extradition institution is evolving toward a “digital extradition” model and emphasizes the necessity of developing unified international standards for handling electronic evidence and strengthening judicial oversight in extradition proceedings.
