The article examines the historical and legal foundations and current trends in the development of the institution of habeas corpus as a mechanism of judicial control over restrictions on the right to individual freedom in criminal proceedings in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The stages of introducing this institution into national legislation are discussed, including the transfer of powers to courts to authorize detention and the constitutional amendments of 2023. Special attention is paid to the importance of judicial control at the pre-trial stages of criminal proceedings. It is concluded that further improvement of procedural guarantees for the protection of individual rights is necessary.
