The article examines the development of diplomatic protocol in Central Asian countries within the context of post-Soviet state-building. It explores how protocol norms have transitioned from technical regulations to “soft power” tools and means of shaping national identity. Based on an analysis of high-level visits conducted in 2024–2025, it is established that regional ceremonial practices combine universal norms of the 1961 Vienna Convention with elements of national and cultural representation. The influence of material culture, including gastronomy and architecture, on the formation of foreign policy images is evaluated. Unique models of protocol practice in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan are identified. It is substantiated that the region’s contemporary protocol functions as a hybrid mechanism aimed at legitimizing political regimes and decolonizing the international image of these states.
