This article covered the concept of mole and its symbolic meanings. In the works, the mole was classified as a conceptosphere in Russian and Japanese culture and was based on a linguo-philosophical basis. In the stories of Mikhail Sholokhov and Yasunari Kawabata, events related to the concept of “mole” and the role and influence of the mole in the psyche and life of characters were studied in a comparative typological way. In the stories, the national mentality and its social role were analyzed in the course of events.
