The Russian language has a long and rich history, with its own unique vocabulary, grammar and style of expression. As with any developed language, Russian lexicography has created numerous dictionaries over the centuries to document and define the language. There are several main types of linguistic dictionaries created for the Russian language, each of which serves a different purpose. This article will review and describe the main vocabulary categories and how they contribute to our understanding of the Russian language.
