English folk tales stand out among the fairy-tale heritage of other nations for their relative simplicity of structure; single-plot works are the most common among them. This article analyzes the introduction and initial part of English folk tales and explores their uniqueness. Examples demonstrate how opening fragments are used in English folk tales.
