By the end of the 1920s, radical measures had been implemented in the Uzbek SSR aimed at eliminating traditional forms of religious education - old schools (maktabs) and madrasas. Their activities were subjected to ideological criticism as a manifestation of "vestiges of the feudal-patriarchal past." Under increasing pressure from the Soviet authorities, reforming these educational institutions was not permitted. Instead, a systematic displacement of religious education was carried out through the creation of a network of secular Soviet schools that aligned with the ideological principles of the new state.
