This article examines the main stages of emergence, formation, and development of victimology as an independent scientific field that studies the personality of crime victims and the characteristics of victims of illegal acts. The history of victim studies in international scholarship is presented in a generalized form. Additionally, the article highlights the contributions of domestic researchers who initiated the development of criminal victimology within the national scientific tradition.
