This article analyzes contemporary historiographical trends in the study of Uzbek national identity. It examines the transformation of theoretical and methodological approaches in foreign scholarship toward the study of Uzbek identity. The research employs historiographical, comparative-historical, systemic, and historical-genetic methods, as well as content analysis. The study identifies a shift from explaining identity primarily through ethnic origins and state policy toward examining social and cultural processes, identification, and everyday practices. It also demonstrates the growing tendency to combine archival materials with anthropological field research. The article summarizes the possibilities and methodological challenges of contemporary approaches. The findings contribute to identifying promising directions for further research on Uzbek national identity.
