This article presents information about the Jadid movement in the Fergana Valley, the historical figure, and the activities of one of its main representatives, O. Makhmudov. This, in turn, highlights the fact that the local population of Turkestan society in the last quarter of the 19th century and the early 20th century lagged behind global development in socioeconomic terms, necessitating social reform.
