The article analyzes the transformation of Bukhara’s architectural environment from the late nineteenth to the late twentieth century through four distinct stages. It examines the influence of the Russian Empire, early Soviet transformations, centralized urban planning during the Stalin era, standardized construction under Khrushchev, and the characteristics of late Soviet modernism. The social and political factors that shaped these processes are also explored. Particular attention is paid to their impact on the city’s historical appearance, territorial development, and architectural heritage. The article further investigates the relationship between tradition and the modernization of Bukhara’s architectural environment under the influence of Soviet ideology.
