This article examines the development of historical-anthropological approaches to the study of Uzbek identity in foreign historiography. Particular attention is paid to the methodological shift from interpreting identity primarily through ethnogenesis, historical continuity, and political-institutional processes toward understanding it as a multilayered and dynamic socio-historical phenomenon. The study considers approaches that relate identity to everyday practices, social relations, territorial belonging, religious and cultural perceptions, as well as individual and local group self-identification.
