This article investigates the semantic field and pragmatic differentiation of speech activity verbs in English and Uzbek from a contrastive linguistic perspective. The study treats speech activity verbs not merely as verbs denoting speaking but as lexical units that encode communicative actions, speaker intention and the intended effect on the addressee. The theoretical framework combines Austin's theory of performativity, Searle's classification of illocutionary acts, Brown and Levinson's politeness theory, and Wierzbicka's semantic approach. English verbs such as promise, request, apologize, declare, advise and thank and their Uzbek semantic counterparts are analysed by means of contrastive-semantic, componential, contextual-pragmatic and lexicographic methods.
