This article analyzes fraud committed using information technologies as a distinct and coherent phenomenon. The study proceeds from the premise that the traditional legal framework for fraud established by Article 168 of the current Criminal Code does not fully account for the specific characteristics of cyberfraud, including its cross-border nature, anonymity, and technical complexity, thereby necessitating a separate examination of the legal foundations of this discrepancy. The problem is examined not only from a normative legal perspective but also through the internal mechanism of the offense, with particular attention to why methods based on abuse of trust and social engineering are effective. Understanding victim behavior is essential for developing effective preventive measures. On this basis, nine distinct methods of fraud are analyzed in detail: phishing, vishing, inheritance fraud, international mail fraud, fake contest scams, online begging fraud, online shopping fraud, romance fraud, and freelance fraud. Each method is examined in terms of its mechanism, difficulties in legal qualification, and impact on victims. The study concludes by proposing a system of interrelated recommendations aimed at improving legislation, strengthening cooperation between financial institutions and law enforcement agencies, and developing citizens’ digital literacy through practical skills.
