Relevance. Midfacial trauma is often accompanied by ophthalmological complications and can lead to decreased visual function and disability [1]. Early detection and timely treatment of damage to eye tissues and orbital structures against the background of various types of midfacial fractures are crucial for preserving visual acuity. Purpose of the study. To assess the frequency of ophthalmological complications in patients with midfacial trauma and to analyze the clinical and etiological factors affecting visual acuity. Materials and methods. An analysis of outpatient records and examination results of 120 patients with midfacial trauma was conducted. Results and conclusions. The main cause of midfacial trauma was road traffic accidents (55.0%). The most common ophthalmological manifestations were periorbital edema and hemorrhage (70.8%), subconjunctival hemorrhage (42.5%), diplopia (25.8%), ocular motility restriction (21.7%), enophthalmos (18.3%), and traumatic optic neuropathy (TON) (12.5%). Introducing a complete ophthalmological examination as a standard procedure in every patient with midfacial trauma, and multidisciplinary collaboration between maxillofacialsurgeons and ophthalmologists, will preserve visual acuity and reduce complications.
