This article provides a historiographic analysis of the literature published in the 20-80 XX century, covering the problem of the national-territorial demarcation of Central Asia, its causes and consequences. Particular emphasis is placed on the literature of the period, since the authors of the works created then were witnesses or direct participants in the events, and the foundations of national policy were laid as one of the aspects of the new Soviet statehood. In general, publications of the 20-30 do not give a complete picture of the event. In the literature of the 40-60 there is a slightly different, different from the previous period, assessment of the national-territorial demarcation, where there is practically no criticism of the Communist Party and Soviet nationality policy in Central Asia. There is not a word in it about the negative consequences of the disengagement policy. As for the research of the 70-80 of the last century, then during this period a large number of works on the subject were published, however, they were very similar to each other, they repeated and duplicated not only facts, but also texts, thus, all positions on various aspects of the national-state construction in the USSR. An objective assessment of the national-territorial delimitation of Central Asia became possible thanks to the achievement of state independence by Uzbekistan.
