The article considers the changes and existing problems in the training of personnel in the field of higher education in the Fergana Valley regions of Uzbekistan during the years of independence. Also, based on the specific characteristics of the Fergana Valley, the situation in this area was studied by comparing the indicators of the coverage of young people in higher educational institutions with the average indicators in the republic. Despite the fact that a number of positive changes were implemented in higher education institutions in the Fergana Valley regions in 1991-2016, problems in the training of higher education personnel have been highlighted. It is argued that the wide-ranging reforms that began in 2017, namely the expansion of admission parameters in the higher education system, the expansion of access to education, and the increase in the number of educational institutions through the opening of new higher education institutions in the Fergana Valley regions, as in the republic, have expanded the opportunities for young people in the valley regions to receive higher education.
